Rochester, Victoria, Australia

Rochester is nestled on the banks of the Campaspe River. Rochester is the gateway to the Mighty Murray and  Rich River Country. The mild climate provides a relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy the many leisure activities offered within the area. Rochester can cater for just about every sporting interest. Facilities include nine and eighteen holes golf courses, numerous tennis centres, an Olympic standard pool (during summer months) and a state recognised bowling green. The town has many attractive older buildings and visitors are encouraged to follow the Historical plaque trail. The town has 3 hotels as well as cafes and a bakery to enjoy. This highlights the places of interest including the birth place of one of Australia’s finest cyclists, Sir Hubert Opperman.

Rochester is approximately 2 hours drive from Melbourne Airport, 45 minutes from Bendigo, Heathcote and Shepparton, 25 minutes from Echuca and is a close drive to Lockington, Colbinabbin, Elmore, Bamawm, Ballendella, Diggora West, Corop, Nanneella, Girgarre and Strathallan.  Rochester is a short drive to Lake Cooper and Greens Lake to enjoy many recreational pursuits.

In 2018, Jimmy D'vate, painted the famous Rochester GrainCorp silos.  The silos are brilliant by day but even better by night when lit up just after dusk.  A short drive to Colbinabbin you will see the recently painted silos which are amazing.  Iddles Lane was opened in March 2020 which features famous police officer Ron Iddles and his family.  The Rochester Mural Festival has recently installed past murals around town.  From the back of the Chemist, to the car park at Majors IGA and next to the car washa t Caltex there are many murals around town for all to see.


Rochester - What to do whilst in Rochester!

Rochester is the home to the amazing GrainCorp silos painted in 2018 by famous artist #Dvate.  Other attractions include Murals, Campaspe River, World War Two statues, churches, historical buildings and more.

Rochester River walk is a great walk with nature.  From the river, to the tress and birds and even the squirrell gliders nests lots can be seen along the river.

Four local hotels, all walking distance, including Criterion Hotel, Shamrock Hotel, Hotel Rochester and Wine Tavern.

Cafes include Kits Kafe,  Willow Cafe and Rochester Bakery.

The famous Cottam's Family Butchers are well known across the district for their Gourmet Sausages & Rissoles as well as a variety of all meats.

Located in town is Majors Supa IGA Supermarket, Rochester Newsagency, Chemmart, Rochester Sportspower, Eden clothing, Bloom & Gifts Florist, Bellus Studio Beauty & Skin Clinic, Amped Hair, New Image Hair & Beauty, Little Green Florist, Riverine Gluten Free, Rochester Discounts and many more service and retail industries.

During the summer months there is an Olympic Swimming  pool.

Home of many sporting clubs including football, netball, little athletics, cricket, a primary school, secondary school and St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church is part of Sandhurst Dioceses.  Other churches include Anglican, Assembly of God, Presbyterian, Uniting and Salvation Army.

Rochester Community House, Mens Shed and Rochester Elmore District Heath Service (REDHS) all service the community.
